Mr. Dowling is the Chairman Emeritus of the Firm’s Board of Directors, and senior member of the firm’s Business Transactions and Estate Planning Departments. Mr. Dowling’s practice encompasses a broad cross-section of business transactions, estate planning, and estate and trust administration.
Mr. Dowling moved to Fresno shortly after graduating from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, in 1966. He worked in the District Attorney’s office for nearly two years before moving into private practice at a small business law firm doing litigation and general business. In December 1976 he started his own firm, and began honing his practice in the business transactions and taxation areas.
Dowling Aaron started with two attorneys, and grew fairly quickly. By the mid-1980s the firm formed a Litigation Department. By 1990, the firm had grown to 18 lawyers—half doing litigation and half doing business transactions. As areas of need grew, so did the firm—as attorneys were brought on to handle employment, environmental, real estate, trust litigation and estate law. In 2000, Dowling Aaron developed an Appellate Law Department that is now recognized throughout the state. In 2006 the firmed opened a Bakersfield office and another office in Visalia in 2010.
As founder, Mr. Dowling is most proud of the recognition the firm has received as one of the premier business law firms in Central California.
Mr. Dowling is active in the community, having served on various boards, including the St. Agnes Medical Center Foundation, the State Center Community College Foundation and Rotary. In his free time, Mr. Dowling enjoys staying active. He has taken fly fishing trips across the Western United States and Alaska and has also been an avid hiker, runner, and tennis player. You can also find him cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events.
