Matt’s practice is focused on business law, nonprofits, construction law, agri-business and business litigation. Matt considers himself a hybrid attorney, being able to navigate his clients’ interests in both transactional and litigation matters. In litigation, his area of emphasis includes representing clients in complex civil disputes through all stages of litigation for issues involving breach of contract, intellectual property, securities, failed construction projects, lien rights, construction defects, real property, and other business disputes in federal and state court, arbitrations, and administrative hearings before various state and federal agencies.

In his construction practice, Matt frequently represents public agencies, developers, general contractors, sub-contractors, architects, engineers and insurance carriers through all stages of complex litigation in cases involving construction defect, delay claims, extra work claims, standard of care, bidding disputes and environmental regulations.  He also regularly advises clients on contracts in all phases of construction, from bidding and pre-construction through contract close-out.  As part of his practice, Matt provides guidance to a number of public agencies regarding their facilities operations and development.

In his agri-business practice, Matt frequently represents packers, growers, brokers, shippers, food processors and other clients within the agricultural industry in cases involving PACA violations, food safety, crop loss, lien rights and other general business matters. Matt has also represented defrauded investors in matters pertaining to account churning, excessive trading and other securities violations before FINRA and the NASD, and has handled multiple disputes involving complex business valuations, appraisals and shareholder buyout agreements.

In addition, to his litigation practice, Matt also helps businesses and individuals answer complex business planning questions pertaining to entity formation, employment law, buy-sell agreement, lease negotiations, charitable giving and contract formation.   Matt also regularly advises non-profits regarding formation and structure and disputes with the California Attorney General’s Office.

Matt was selected by Super Lawyers as a Northern California Rising Star, representing the top 2.5 percent of young lawyers in Northern California as voted on by his peers from 2010 through the present. He has also published articles on the enforcement of PACA Trust rights in various publications throughout California.

While in attendance at the Pepperdine School of Law, Matt was a fellow at the Geoffrey H. Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law and served as a staff member on the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary Journal.

Matt is active in the Fresno community.  He co-founded Martin Park, Inc. which is a non-profit based in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Fresno which offers a safe place for kids to play, tutoring service, free meals and mentorship.  Matt also sits on the board of the Fresno Rescue Mission.

Matt is also an eight time Ironman race finisher and enjoys spending time with his wife and five kids.
